Memories of Blue

Before Blue

The days moved and what remained

Was nothing I could keep.

I euphemised the emptiness

As peace.

Blue arrived the way color is revealed

When the sky has finished arguing with itself

And simply becomes the horizon.

Where Blue meets all the colors.

Not a splash.

But a depth that holds whatever is dropped into it.

And it reflects back clearer.

Brighter.

You are the Blue.

You are the reason water can be seen at all.

Gulf-dark at the edges

Morning-pale where it meets my hands.

We share a Signal as a lighthouse.

Not because the dark is cruel,

But because something out there

Is still trying to come home.

Sincerely, I have stopped rehearsing the life

That did not know your name.

Take the unmarked hours.

Take every version of me that

Had not learned how to be found.

I want to replace every memory I have without you,

With every memory I have with you.
